A Dirt Bikers' Girlfriend
Are you even a dirt bike girlfriend if your hair isn’t bleached, wearing a black tank top with tight ripped jeans and his FOX Racing flat rim hat? If this isn’t how you look on race day, then you have come to the right place. Thankfully, what you have just read has nothing to do with being a rad dirt bike girlfriend! So, other than being the hot chick your man gets to put on the back of his bike and show off around the pits, I’ve listed a few other pointers to get you and your dirt bike boyfriend on the same page! You’re a Team If you have ever been a part of a sports team you can recall that every player has a role to play. Racing is no different! You already know the role your rider plays in the team, and that is to ride his dirt bike the best he can. Your role as girlfriend holds a huge responsibility; you are your riders support. In fact, your rider is completely motivated just by the very sight of you! Be sure to use words of encouragement and stay away from snarky, sarcastic comments. What he needs to know is that you want to be a part of the
things he loves too. You can show him by preparing race day meals, cleaning his goggles, or telling him he looks good in his gear (it’s true, he does). Most people wouldn’t describe Race day as a romantic, couples bonding experience, but I can attest that it most certainly is! As a dirt bike girlfriend, you are automatically promoted to umbrella girl! What is an umbrella girl? An umbrella girl has the job of shading her rider with an umbrella at the race line up. A lot of times riders will sit in line for close to an hour or longer in the scorching sun with their full gear on and a hot bike with hundreds of other riders. That umbrella is a life saver! The best part is you’ll be the last person he sees before his race. Cue in the helmet kisses! Have a Routine The days leading up to race day can be a little overwhelming. Your boyfriend needs to prepare his bike, gear, meals, hydration, transportation and mentality. Sometimes it can feel like you get in the way as he packs all this stuff! This is where communication and routine will really come in handy. For my husband and I our routine looks a little like this:
Whatever you decide when it comes to routine, know that it will make your dirt bike boyfriend feel like you care.
Make T-Shirts
The rider isn’t the only one who gets to look cool on race day! It doesn’t take the most creative and artistic person to make your own race day attire and you’re not limited to just T-shirts. There are so many different ideas that you can do to turn yourself into your boyfriends’ personal cheerleader. Depending on your personality you may do something settle or something extravagant, whatever it is just remember it is supposed to support your rider, not embarrass them. I know that seems a little harsh but trust me I have seen it all! Making team attire gets everyone involved. Make enough for the other riders on the team including family members too. Your rider will love it!
Take Pictures/Video What I find amazing about being a dirt bike girlfriend is how cool our dirt bike boyfriend is. He makes jumping feet in the air and riding speeds nearly 80 mph look easy! I found that capturing those moments with a photo/video helps me as the girlfriend feel what he feels when riding. Using a GoPro for aces is a game changer! GoPros have a feature that allows you to “ride with him” through the app. If you’re not ready for a GoPro using a phone camera is another great option. Phones are easy to pull out quick when that picture-perfect moment comes up. Maybe you are someone with a little more time and want to make short videos of his race. Those videos are a lot of fun for both rider and videographer! These pictures/videos show your rider what he looks like through your eyes. Your rider will love seeing you be a part of his race and his confidence will boost up to 1,000 when he sees what you see.
I stated a few pointers that come in handy for any dirt bike girlfriend on race day, but what I can’t list is what makes you, you. Your dirt bike boyfriend loves you just the way you are and wants you to be a part of race day the way you want to be! If you do not relate with what I’ve suggested do not think you aren’t qualified to be a dirt bike girlfriend. Instead, communicate with your dirt bike boyfriend and figure out ways to make race day something you both enjoy. I will say, that being an adrenaline junkies’ girlfriend is THE BEST. Very rarely will you ever be bored and 9 times out of 10 the girlfriend ends up riding her own bike one day. My now husband, became my boyfriend when I was 20 years old. He swooned me with risk taking 4-wheeler rides, winning the hole-shot at traffic lights, treating me to hospital dinners and handing me all those winning trophies. It didn’t take long until we became husband and wife! So, let this be a warning, you’ve found one of the good ones.
