How to be a Dirt Bike Mom

The fact that you’re looking at this blog already tells me you’re a super rad mom who really loves her rad family. Take a deep breath mom, we can handle this wild ride together. Like many dirt bike families, it all begins with that rebellious, adrenaline junkie boyfriend. Fast forward to today, we have been married for 7 years and have two wild children! Here are a few points that can help you become the best dirt bike mom for your family: Know your worth Dirt bike moms are amazing. They have a way of taming their protective Mama-Bear instincts when danger is looking right at their babies. Seriously! If I could paint a picture of what she looks like she would look like a fierce lion standing firm and strong behind her cub. Sometimes I find myself doubting my God-given role as mom. Ill be the first to say that I don’t know the ins-and outs of racing! Once I start hearing my husband speak in dirt bike language, I’m out. Now that my kids are taking an interest to ride, I wouldn’t say that I’m qualified to be a very good dirt biker coach. Remember that picture I mentioned above? That fierce lion is giving her cub confidence by just being there. We also always know what to say to our children, because we know them. Be present, be supportive, be encouraging. Use those words that you know your child relates too before they sit on their bike and you will see them stare right back at dangers face and say, “I’m going to send it”. Prepare at Home Race day is every day at our home. I mean, dirt bikes are everywhere! If Coco Melon or Baby Shark fails to entertain your children, I suggest pulling up a YouTube video of dirt bikes doing hill climbs or Axell Hodges doing his incredible tricks. If it wasn’t for me my kids would watch those all day! Preparing your rider for race day can be overwhelming. Aside from the obvious things like food, drinks, gear, equipment and clothes there is also your riders skill and sportsmanship. I am so proud to be a part of the dirt bike racing community. They are the most encouraging and understanding people you will ever encounter! Everyone wants everyone to meet their goals and if there is that rare someone that wants to break the rules and have bad sportsmanship, you better believe that dirt bike community will call them out! As a stay at home mom I am always implementing good sportsmanship throughout our day. We work together as a team, we handle our emotions correctly, we put God first in everything we do, we are kind, we are confident, and we have fun. How we are at home is how we will be on race day!

Pray As a new dirt bike mom I’m not afraid to ask the hard questions. I don’t care to be cool in the sense that I just let my kids do wild and dangerous things with a smile on my face! Don’t fool yourself in believing that the experienced dirt bike moms are “used to it” and don’t worry anymore. I asked those moms what they do when their rider is at the starting line and you know what each one said? Pray. That is the most powerful thing any mom can do and you better believe that if the experienced moms are praying so am I. Pray for your riders safety, their attitude and their confidence. Pray for the other riders as well! If you’re not sure where to begin with your own prayer journey I encourage you to find a local church to guide you through your relationship with Jesus. Connect with other Dirt Bike Moms If you have a hard time making friends because you let your 3-year-old ride dirt bikes, go to a race and you’ll find other moms that are just as bad as you!*sarcasm*. It is amazing how this sport brings people together, especially moms! When you connect with other dirt bike moms you’re creating an environment that allows riders to thrive. Kids need kids and as mom you are responsible for helping your rider create friendships. I can think of a few ways to break the ice when meeting a new dirt bike mom. If you notice your rider playing with a new friend introduce yourself to the parents. Invite them to your pit and share a drink while the kids play! Another great way to connect is to introduce yourself to your parking neighbors. Race day parking lots are packed so whether you like it or not, you’re going to make friends! Have Fun Remember how fun it was watching your dirt bike racing boyfriend? Before having kids and worrying about everything? You can still have fun! Your riders are loving this sport and you do too! It is never about winning, having the flashiest gear, the biggest toy hauler, or the most expensive dirt bike. You are making memories with your family. Your riders will talk about these days for the rest of their lives and we dirt bike moms are the ones that make it happen. So, as simple and overused as this phrase is, it holds so much truth. Have FUN!
